Weight, Balance & Battery Fit

The AeroScout CG is 67-70mm from the wing leading edge. Long batteries throw it off. Short-form packs only. Good news: 5S short packs exist that nearly match the current 4S.

Why this matters: Pusher config = motor weight at the rear. Battery sits forward to balance. A longer/heavier battery shifts CG forward (slightly nose heavy = okay). A battery that's the wrong shape won't seat properly and creates unpredictable CG shifts.

BEST MATCH

OVONIC 5S 1300mAh 100C — virtually identical dimensions to the current Zeee 4S. Only +2mm longer, +0.5mm taller, +11g heavier. CG won't change. 100C × 1.3Ah = 130A burst, way more than the 42A your RSIII 2100KV draws.

HIGHER C-RATE

OVONIC Rebel 2.0 5S 1300mAh 130C — slightly larger but still short-form. Better sustained discharge for streamer pulls. Worth the extra $4 if available.

AVOID

DXF 5S 1100mAh 60C — too light (tail-heavy CG shift on a pusher) and 60C is borderline for aggressive flying. Also avoid any long-form "stick" packs that won't seat properly.

Balance tip: After swapping to 5S, verify CG at 67-70mm from wing leading edge. If slightly nose heavy, that's fine on a pusher — it's self-correcting. If tail heavy, slide battery forward in the compartment or add ~5-10g of nose weight.

// 03 BUILD COMPARISONS

Choose Your Build

BEFORE YOU FLY ANY OF THESE — set your ESC low-voltage cutoff. These builds pull far more current than the stock setup, so the pack empties fast. At the draws in the tables below, a 5S 1300mAh pack runs completely flat in under two minutes (about 111 seconds at 42A, about 78 seconds at 60A). That is total capacity, not usable — plan to land with 20% left.

Taking a LiPo below 3.0V per cell is the normal way people end up with a puffed pack that catches fire on the next charge. The ZTW Beatles G2 has cutoff protection built in, but you have to set it — program it to 3.2–3.5V per cell with the programming card, and fly to a timer rather than until the plane feels soft.

THE AMP FIGURES ON THIS PAGE ARE PROBABLY 15–25% LOW. Every current number here scales from one assumed reference point (a 2306 2555KV on 4S making 1,700g at 45A) that was never measured. Four manufacturer bench tests of that same stator and KV measure 1.77–2.14 g/W at full throttle; this page assumes 2.25 g/W. Correcting for that, the recommended build’s 42A becomes roughly 44–51A — which is at or slightly over the RSIII 2100KV’s published 46A peak, and Emax publishes no continuous rating at all. The thrust figures look right; it is the current that is optimistic. One caveat cuts the other way: those four tests all used 3-blade props, and a 2-blade is more efficient, so the true correction may be at the low end. This is unresolved until someone puts a watt meter inline and measures it.

Also worth saying plainly: the stock AeroScout S2 is a foam trainer at roughly 1.1:1 thrust-to-weight. These builds take it to 2.5–3.0:1. Nothing on this page covers airframe limits — dive speed, wing loading, flutter — and the known-issues list above already reports servo blow-back in fast dives at stock power. Build up to it.

RPM and tip speed in the two 6″ tables were corrected 2026-08-28. The 5S column had been copied from the 4S table — identical RPM at two different voltages, which cannot happen — and both tables used the 5″ load factor. They are now computed as KV × volts × 0.645, the same 6″ figure this page’s own calculator uses. The thrust and amp figures in these two tables are hand-estimated and still disagree with the calculator (for 5S + 6045 + RSIII 1800KV the table says ~38A, the calculator says ~36A). Treat both as estimates and verify on a watt meter before committing to a build.

MAX THRUST — TIGHT MARGIN

F80 Pro 2408 2200KV on 5S — 1,950g thrust at 42A is the biggest number on this page. 42A × 21.0V = 882W against this variant’s published 928W, so it is inside its rating — but only by 5%, and T-Motor rates that 928W for 60 seconds, not continuously. The wire temperature for this motor is also not published, so there is no way to know what insulation you are working. Build B (RSIII 2100KV on 5S) is the calmer choice if you want margin rather than the top number.

THE BOTTOM LINE

5S is worth it. More voltage means more power at lower current — motors run cooler, throttle response is snappier, and you get headroom to grow. The OVONIC 5S 1300mAh is nearly the same size as a 4S 1500mAh pack.

Servo upgrade is mandatory. Stock 8g plastic-gear servos can't hold control surfaces at these speeds. Emax ES09MD HV on 6V BEC — same footprint, 73% more torque, eliminates dive blow-back.

Heat kills motors on this mount. The 16mm hard plastic mount softens under sustained load. Fix: sandwich a thin aluminum plate (0.5-1mm) between motor and mount — a soda can works. Lower KV builds also help by pulling fewer amps.

Direct solder motor-to-ESC. The stock bullet connectors add resistance and heat. Solder direct or crimp proper 3.5mm bullets with heat shrink.
