Motor, prop, and battery combinations analyzed for thrust, current draw, thermal limits, and the trademark Bulldog scream.
Built by Rob. Shared for anyone modifying an AeroScout or building a hot fixed-wing pusher.
Modified pusher trainer. Stock airframe, upgraded power system. All builds share this platform.
The AeroScout CG is 67-70mm from the wing leading edge. Long batteries throw it off. Short-form packs only. Good news: 5S short packs exist that nearly match the current 4S.
| Battery | Config | Capacity | C-Rate | Length | Width | Height | Weight | CG Impact | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Zeee Graphene 120C | 4S | 1500mAh | 120C | 70mm | 35.5mm | 36.5mm | 177g | CURRENT — baseline | ~$25 (2pk) |
| OVONIC 5S 100C | 5S | 1300mAh | 100C | 72mm | 35mm | 37mm | 188g | +11g, +2mm — negligible | ~$18 |
| OVONIC Rebel 2.0 130C | 5S | 1300mAh | 130C | ~74mm | ~36mm | ~38mm | ~195g | +18g — minimal shift | ~$22 |
| GOLDBAT 5S 100C | 5S | 1300mAh | 100C | 72mm | 35mm | 39mm | 200g | +23g, +2.5mm tall — check fit | ~$17 |
| DOGCOM 5S 150C | 5S | 1300mAh | 150C | 79mm | 39.5mm | 26mm | ~190g | Flat profile, +9mm long — may shift CG | ~$25 |
| DXF 5S 60C | 5S | 1100mAh | 60C | 62mm | 25mm | 42mm | 109g | -68g lighter — tail heavy risk. Low C-rate. | ~$15 |
| GOLDBAT 5S 100C | 5S | 1500mAh | 100C | 72mm | 35mm | 44mm | 228g | +51g, +7.5mm tall — more flight time but tight fit | ~$20 |
OVONIC 5S 1300mAh 100C — virtually identical dimensions to the current Zeee 4S. Only +2mm longer, +0.5mm taller, +11g heavier. CG won't change. 100C × 1.3Ah = 130A burst, way more than the 42A your RSIII 2100KV draws.
OVONIC Rebel 2.0 5S 1300mAh 130C — slightly larger but still short-form. Better sustained discharge for streamer pulls. Worth the extra $4 if available.
DXF 5S 1100mAh 60C — too light (tail-heavy CG shift on a pusher) and 60C is borderline for aggressive flying. Also avoid any long-form "stick" packs that won't seat properly.

5S is worth it. More voltage means more power at lower current — motors run cooler, throttle response is snappier, and you get headroom to grow. The OVONIC 5S 1300mAh is nearly the same size as a 4S 1500mAh pack.
Servo upgrade is mandatory. Stock 8g plastic-gear servos can't hold control surfaces at these speeds. Emax ES09MD HV on 6V BEC — same footprint, 73% more torque, eliminates dive blow-back.
Heat kills motors on this mount. The 16mm hard plastic mount softens under sustained load. Fix: sandwich a thin aluminum plate (0.5-1mm) between motor and mount — a soda can works. Lower KV builds also help by pulling fewer amps.
Direct solder motor-to-ESC. The stock bullet connectors add resistance and heat. Solder direct or crimp proper 3.5mm bullets with heat shrink.
All 16x16mm mount, all racing/freestyle grade. These are built for fast spool-up and aggressive throttle — avoid "cinematic" motors (smooth throttle, heavy rotors, slow response). Priority: 220°C wire, N52SH+ magnets, Japanese bearings.
Stock Spektrum SPMSA390: 8g, ~1.5kg/cm, plastic gears. At these speeds, the control surfaces can't hold. Set BEC to 6V for max torque.

Emax ES09MD HV — more torque than FrSky Xact at 1/4 the price. 0.08s is the fastest response of all options. Same 23x12mm footprint as stock. ~$48-68 for all 4.
KST X08 V6.0 HV — only 8g (lightest option), 2.8 kg/cm torque, programmable endpoints. Glider-grade precision at a premium price. ~$180 for all 4.
KST X12-508 HV — 4.2 kg/cm at 6V, most holding force on this list. Same 23×12mm footprint as the Emax. Coreless motor, full metal gears. ~$144 for all 4.
KST DS215MG V8 — 3.7 kg/cm torque at 0.05s/60°. Nothing will blow these back in a dive. At 20g they're heavier but unstoppable. ~$260 for all 4.
FrSky Xact D5701 — beautiful engineering with hall sensor and CNC alloy. But only 2.3 kg/cm — less torque than the $12 Emax. Built for precision, not fighting high-speed airflow.
